TIPS for TRY OUTS Podcast
Required listening no matter if your son-daughter is trying to make a team or is the best player. Make sure the player tunes in also!! Do not confuse competition (games, leagues, tournaments) with competitive growth. They are basically unrelated.
Example below. Gabe began with Basics in 6th grade and continued through HS. The Drop-Step is a basic, basic post move yet many players (MS and HS) do not have this in their arsenal. Gabe signed with D-1 James Madison University in Virginia.

Coach McGannon comments. I watch how off season basketball is managed with astonishment. I can not believe how many kids and programs believe actual GAMES are the best way to improve. They are not. REPETITION and REINFORCEMENT of the game’s key skills is the answer. This defines the Basics model and is the primary reasion why over 90% of our players make their school teams. .
These photos are a snap shot of the type of players we help build at Basics. Their success is rooted in skill development, conditioning and mental strength, not in what team they are on, how many points they scored or what their record is.
