Summer Team Camps – anywhere in Michigan or the Midwest.

Contact Coach McGannon no later than June 1 (ideally sooner) to schedule a Basics Team Camp at your school.   616 402-1600

Since 2006, Basics Team Camps have provided a terrific option for Michigan school programs in the summer.  Rather than playing in random tourneys all over the midwest, our coaches come to you.  Our model emphasizes 3 key areas for competitive growth

  1. Sharp Skill Development
  2. An emphasis on Conditining
  3. Mental Strength

This summer, 2 GREAT coaches are available

  1. Sophia Wiard – the reigning MAC Player of the Year at Toledo.  Scored over 1500 points, grabbed 600+ boards and recorded 600+ assists.  Beat U of M two years in a row and played in the Big Dance in 2023, beating Iowa State
  2. Gabe Newhof – 6’9″, 225 lbs.  All State twice at Hudsonville Unity Christian and through his junior year at Spring Arbor, a GREAT performance.  Crossraods Conference Freshman of the Year and 1st team all conference his sophomore year, averaging 26 points and 10 boards.  Gabe is one of the best college players in Michigan, ANY division. (Including the guys in East Lansing and Ann Arbor)

Both players are Basics graduates and can REALLY teach the skills!

Improvement Areas:

  • Technical Skills: Dribble, Pass, Shoot, Defend
  • Emphasizing the importance of conditioning.
  • Court awareness, knowing what and when to do it
  • Building the skill of ANTICIPATION
  • How to play against bigger, stronger, faster opponents
  • How to take advantage if YOU have these advantages
  • Building KEY intangibles: communication, patience, understanding roles, initiative among many other intangibles
  • Learning to GO FOR IT with no fear
