SUMMARY:Coaching Youth Coaches - Grades 6 and Younger
DESCRIPTION:   Helping Youth Coaches Run Competitive Practices: 10th Year! \nFlyer-Coaching Youth Coaches pdf \nMany youth coaches are volunteers or parents helping out\, which is GREAT!  These sessions will greatly assist these coaches in organizing practices that help build skills.   \nCompetitive practices (organized\, repetitive\, skill based) will lead to competitive teams.  NO PLAYS.  A large % of youth practices actually teach plays\, about the last thing these young players need.  NBA Coach discusses this here.   \nWhy plays should be AVOIDED at these tender ages:   We do NOT TEACH PLAYS.  We teach players HOW TO PLAY.  \n2 dates:  3333 E. Beltline and in Ferrysburg\nSkills include \n\nBall Control precedes Ball Handling\nUse of both hands\nDeveloping WIDTH\, learning to create space\nDribbling skills (both hands)\nSharp Change of direction\nLearning to protect the ball with your body\nVISION skills taught throughout all drills\nFootwork – MANY skills but primarily MOVE YOUR FEET!\nJump Stops and Pivots\nShooting – proper form\nPassing – use of both hands AND creating space to pass\nDefensive concepts – stay IN FRONT of your man\nTeaching HELP defense – be ready to HELP your team mates\n\n
